Phnom Penh: Former apsara representative of Cambodia, Ouk Phalla died at about 12 noon on June 17, 2018, just hours after a road accident in Sihanoukville due to serious injuries, while her husband, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, was seriously injured. .

Ms. Oph Phalla died at the age of 39 (born 27 July 1979), and she was also elected to be as a candidate of FUNCINPEC Party for Prey Veng.

She attended classical dance at the Royal School of Art at the age of nine, and made her first public appearance at 13 years old. During the 1990s she was famous for dances including The Churning of the Ocean Milk, which tells how apsara girls were created through a symbolic Brahmanist scripture.

Her first husband was the Cambodian Minister of Tourism, who she met when performing. After her marriage she was unable, due to the cultural laws of apsara, to continue in the classical ballet as a lead dancer.

After her divorce, she married Prince Norodom Ranariddh (who divorced his first wife Eng Marie) in 2010. They have two sons, Prince Norodom Ranarong and Norodom Sothearidh.

The traffic accident that took her life happened on National Road 4 in O Sit Sek village, Ou Okhna Heng district, o the morning of June 17, which injured seven people, including the Prince.

A spokesperson for the Funcinpec Party, confirmed on June 17, 2018, that the funeral of Ouk Phalla be a traditional Buddhist festival in Wat Botum, Phnom Penh.
