There is no need to explain why Youn or Siam isnt a racial slur. Only the White uneducated idiots are racist toward us Khmer. They dont even understand how the Vietnamese killed millions of Khmer and stolen our land and Koh Tral.

What is the point of educating the White uneducated idiots of a simple word "Youn' used by all South East Asian nation.

Surya P. Subedi calls himself an academic prefessor, but when 5 protesters were killed by AK47s, and 20 others were beaten and tortured, Surya P. Subedi blames the protesters of being Anti-Vietnamese.

Surya P. Subedi YOU are a DUMB ASS. This is your conclusion into the 5 murdered protesters in your 5 days of fact finding??

Could you please H.E. Sam Rainsy sit down with Surya P. Subedi, and explain him clearly about Yuon definition. Especially, explain him about the history between Vietnam and khmer, about the killing during the Khmer rouge backed by vietnam. it is the Job of H.E. Sam rainsy. The most important thing is he need to ask Surya Subedi from where/ from whom he learn about Yuon racial issue.

Khmer must take it seriously that the Civil Societies are not honest to Khmer nation. They are bought by CPP Yuon or they are are Yuon root related to the Yuon organization planted by Ho Chi Minh since the early 50'.

Khmer should have a website written Khmer history telling the truth about Khmer history in different languages in order to inform Khmer kid outside Cambodia and tell the world about the atrocities that Yuon has done to Khmer since many centuries. If Surya P, Subedi knew the real story he will condemn Yuon strongly about its hypocrite behavior rather than blaming over Khmer racial issue. YUON IS NOTHING RACIAL.

SENG THEARY, PONG CHHIVE KEK RAISE VERY OFTEN ABOUT KHMER RACIAL ISSUE TOWARD YUON. THIS IS BECAUSE THEY WORK FOR YUON SECRETLY.

Cambodians are called Khmer and the Vietnamese are called Yuon, so what is the big deal.
Do Cambodians feel getting discriminated being called Khmer?
The Vietnamese created this problem during their occupation 1979-1989.

Anonymous said...

Here is the reason why Vietnam does not want Khmer people to call them Yuon:

Because Vietnam does not want Khmer people to recall the old history:

KBAL KHMER YUON DAM TER ONG.

( Vietnam buried Khmer people's bodies in the ground and kept only their heads above the ground using them (heads) as posts to cook Vietnam's tea.)

This history made Yuon looked bad.

Therefore, Vietnam wanted to close this Kbal Khmer YUON dam ter ong story in order to improve its image toward Khmer people. But Khmer people knew well that Vietnam had played a major role in the genocide during the Pol Pot era and its deployment of the K5 project which killed hundreds of thousands of Khmer people.

Vietnam = Yuon = Khmer killer = 100% true = Not derogatory word

The word Yourn may not or may be pejorative. Maybe it was very natural and still is to use this word but if it has become sensitive as shown by all the debate, why a politician like Sam Rainsy just avoid to use it to be politically correct and show how open mind he is. Why CNRP and Sam Rainsy knowing that international community is so sensitive about extremism and ultra nationalism, just pay more attention to constructive criticism about those issues. But may be they are all same like CPP and Hun Sen and cannot accept any criticisms? The word "nigger" was not also pejorative sometime ago and could still be used by normal people, but it is going to be a political suicide for an American politician to use this word in public....

January 19, 2014 at 3:05 AM,

I disagree with you completely.

First, in very early 1979 the problem involves with the word Yuon was brought in by the CPP and the so called "Vietnamese experts" to impose on us Khmer people ordinary and officially not to utilize it, based on their reason as it refers to be a derogatory term to their sacred communist Vietnam including a nation and people.

Second, in 1991 during the UNTAC's administration it was the late King Sihanouk who initially declared to the world, not just to the Khmer people that the word Yuon is a derogatory term. With his status and influence at that time, therefore Mr AKASHI, the head of the administration was willingly followed the reason and made it official the word Yuon is known to be a derogatory term, and not to utilize it which could lead to racial discrimination and tension.

Ever since the CPP came to power, from top to bottom administration, the word Yuon is being replaced by the word Vietnam, and used it to manipulate its original meaning and history, to suit their conveniences and liking.

Many Khmer scholars have been trying to establish the debate about the true meaning of the word Yuon base on facts, Khmer literature and history.
Unfortunately, ignorance still plays a big part in allowing the word Yuon to be served as to manipulate and confuse everyone who do not have a clear understanding of it. The word is also has been utilized as a dominant strategy within Cambodian politic and Khmer sentiment towards political correctness and humanity by ways of turning black to white and right to wrong.

Khmer people should feel and use this issue as an evident to prove as an act of invasion and an intention to subjugate Cambodia and its people.
We all must stand up and defy this acts from all fronts, and restore the true and correct meaning of the word Youn immediately.

Yeah, step up to the plate great Khmer people, please? Writing here on KI-Media, facebook, or even on every social-media in the world may not help anybody at all, because the YUON and CPP Hun Sen have been ahead of you all for over 30 years already! Do something that will work to Khmer advantages beyond just venting out, please if you are all Khmer! Cambodia needs help from each and everyone of you if she is to survive the YUON's annexation. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The words Viet Nam was partially used as follow:
- Dai Co Viet 986 AD.
- Dai Viet 1054 AD.
- Viet Nam 1804 before moving on to other names.

The country/tribe had been existed long before the periods above.

It's not like Khmer got invaded by force, but lost the land due to many reasons of centuries neglects and long before King An Duong asking the French to help out. Khmer had never been sea people in the past. Even if Khmer bring this things out to the international court, the annexation process would require a vote from the region population & Khmer would not win. Just protect our land right now & live with our mistakes from the past.

What annexation? What does it have anything to do with Khmer calling ah YUON - "YUON"?

Yeay Tep,

Don't you think that all the debates, extremes comments generating by the rhetorics of CNRP's leaderships is playing the games of CPP and falling in the trap of deflecting attention from more urgent and important issues of election fraud, CPP's abuses, illegal immigration, repression of demonstrators? CPP is now delighted to point out at all comments generated by this situation to highlight how CNRP is just a bunch of shortsighted politicians using populist xenophobic speech. CNRP just managed to get the negative attention of international community and the CPP is happily exploiting that. Yes, I agree that Subeidi and other white experts may not understand everything and that is why CNRP must just be extra careful to focus on important issues which will gain them support and get to power. They can denounce inference of yourn government if they can prove it but should not generally single out any ethnic groups living legally or illegal in Cambodia. How could CNRP so openly announced that they supported China against Vietnam at the risk of upsetting many other ASEAN countries at odd with china for same reasons as yourn?! Bravo, to have ASEAN and UN and EU doubting about your policy at this stage. I was and still am an active supporter of CNRP but start feeling a bit disappointed. OK still much better than CPP in general but if they continue like that they won't get to govern well or at all...It is not by being like your enemies or worse then them that you can defeat them...

Da Viet's professors, in 20th century, had unashamedly rewritten Youn history as Siem, for ex. Youn had repeatedly Mongol twice or trice?

I would not be surprised if CPP plays dirty tricks and arranged for the killing of some vietnameses in Cambodia and present it as result of incited xenophobic speech of CNRP..... That would put more dirt on CNRP even if they claim of not inciting violence. Since Subeidi already warn about that....could be seen as direct or indirect result of such perceived racial rethoric....

This debate about the Khmer word "yuon" is total nonsense. It's complete garbage. I don't know what the hootin' and hollerin' is about? What other word besides yuon in the Khmer dictionary, can I use to refer the people of Vietnam? If one were to speak only Khmer and does not know any other language (English), how does one go about to call the people of Vietnam? The people of "Vietnam" is an English word.

Folks, this is not about inciting racial tension or discrimination. This is merely a method in which the Vietnamese government exercised to control our people, the nation. I have been using the word yuon ever since I could speak Khmer. I have used this word with no ill will to the Vietnamese people who are peace-loving. When I visited Cambodia, I was perturbed that people would say "chon cheat Vietnam" which made no sense to me! That's Khmer mixed with English!

At the most basic level, this is purely a method to gain control over Cambodians. This is not about racial slur, it's about leveling fear into people because once fear is in motion, you become their master. That is what hun sen and the Vietnamese government has accomplished: fear. I do not blame Khmer. Fear runs rampant in the country. When people rise up to speak, they speak without a voice because of fear. This is the state of nation, people have been living in fear for far too long under this brutal regime, and I don't dare fault the people. The government has silenced them.

It is political. It has nothing to do with the usage of the word YOUN.

Khmers call the Chinese "CHEN." Why the Chinese don't consider that a racial slur?

Khmers call Americans "Ah Kiang." Why the Americans don't consider that a racial slur?

The Thais call Khmers "Khmen." Why don't Khmers consider that a racial slur?

The barbaric Viets are low and cheap race. They love to cause trouble. They love to incite Khmers to hate Khmers.

So folks, no one has the right to tell you what words to use and what not to use. The word YOUN is the official Khmer language and that is it.

Why is ha Ou Virek the fat and ugly animal not complaining about it any more now?

I have a friend who is a geek, nerd. He got upset with the political correct involving the term "nigger". He claimed it violates his right to use it.

I told him, "Well, there are other terms you can use, and best yet, use the term which they want you to use." He got stubborn.

At this point, I told him, "Well see, I never have problems, I always have friends. You are taking a great risk in offending people with this attitude."

In America, if the blacks want me to refer them as: African American, I will do exactly that, happily.

-Drgunzet-

P.S. My friend is very aggressive, narrow-minded. Over time, I no longer want to see him.

My nerd, geeky friend was the kind of people who would bark loudly "nigger, nigger" at home, but when he met the big blacks, he would never dare to say a thing.

In contract, at home or when I meet the blacks, I would talk in the same way, "African American or black" and never have a problem.

I made a realization, computer, programming, engineering stuffs are actually easy stuff. Even an idiot like that friend of mine could understand. And I learn those subjects in a few days. The hardest technical subject I encounter was Advanced Physics (Einstein's theories). And I only needed a week to learn.

The hardest subjects I learned so far are:

1. How to treat women nice as a gentleman. That took me several years.

2. Humanity. It's a life time of learning.

My geek friend is very talented in technical, but his wife was not impressed. She slept around with other men and even tried to flirt with me a few times.

May I suggest the Khmer folks to step up the effort to learn humanity. I will be happy to see the rape rate in Cambodia drops.
